You Don’t Need to Fix Your Body—You Need to Refocus Your Mind

Cast Off. Take On.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” — Romans 12:2

And...

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” — Colossians 3:2

There’s a pattern to this world—and it’s loud.

Think about your body. Fix your body. Obsess over your body.

And if you’re not careful, you’ll wake up one day and realize…you’ve been thinking about yourself way more than you’ve been thinking about God.

I say that with zero judgment—because I lived there.

I’ve spent seasons where exercise felt like punishment. Where food was comfort, entertainment, and stress relief all wrapped into one. Where my weight felt like the thing that defined whether I was “doing well” or not.

And honestly? It distracted me from God more than it ever helped me.

That’s the part we don’t talk about enough.

We Don’t Just “Stop”—We Replace

Scripture doesn’t just say don’t conform. It tells us how transformation happens:

Renewing your mind.

That means we don’t just cast things off—we take new things on.

So what are we casting off?

  • Constant thoughts about our body

  • Obsession with weight, calories, and appearance

  • The belief that our worth is tied to how we look

  • Treating fitness like it determines our value

And what are we taking on?

  • You were bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20)

  • You are a child of God, fully loved already (1 John 3:1)

  • Your body is temporary—but your soul is eternal (Philippians 3:20-21)

  • Caring for your body is obedience, not identity (Colossians 3:17)

Let’s Be Real for a Second

Some of us are out here spending more mental energy on our step count than our spiritual life.

(Yeah… I said it. And I’ve done it.)

It’s not that fitness is bad.

It’s that it was never meant to be your focus.

God does care that we steward our bodies well. But He cares way more about your heart, your mind, and your obedience.

What Actually Matters to God

Not your weight. Not your clothing size. Not your progress photos.

What matters to God:

  • Are you walking in obedience?

  • Are you renewing your mind?

  • Are you trusting Him, even when results don’t come?

  • Are you living like someone who belongs to Him?

  • And even, are you taking care of your body in a balanced way. (He cares about every part of us!)

The Shift

You don’t need to think less about fitness because it doesn’t matter.

You need to think about it in the right place.

Not as your focus. Not as your identity. Not as your measuring stick.

But as one small part of a life that is fully focused on God.

Final Thought

You don’t have to keep circling the same thoughts about your body.

You can let them go.

Cast them off. Take on what is true. And set your mind where it was always meant to be.
